Acupuncture treatment for dogs now available

We’re thrilled to announce that Vet Lauren is now a member of Association of British Veterinary Acupuncturists and is offering Western Medical acupuncture here at Mulberry House Vets for our arthritic dogs (cats coming soon)! At Mulberry House we will be integrating conventional veterinary medicine with evidence-based acupuncture techniques passed down through generations.

How does acupuncture work?

Research suggests that acupuncture in animals works through several mechanisms:

  • Nerve stimulation which alters the way the brain process pain

  • Release of natural painkillers such as endorphins

  • Improved blood flow to local tissues to promote healing
  • Reduced inflammation on chronically stimulated pathways such as arthritis
  • Reduces muscle tension

How to be prepared for your acupuncture consultation?

What to expect in and after an acupuncture consultation?

  • Acupuncture shouldn’t be painful but what your pet may feel is a warming sensation, tingling or a slight pressure

How long are treatment courses?

For management of an osteoarthritis cases the initial course generally involves one treatment per week for 3-5 weeks. Following this the treatment frequency will be tailored personally to your pet. For osteoarthritis treatment most dogs will likely need one session a month.
