CT Scanner

CT Scanner

At Mulberry House Vets we put your pets at the heart of everything we do and we always strive to be the best vets we can be. We are the only independent vet practice in the area to have a permanent CT scanner on site. Investing in this cutting-edge technology means we can offer referral level investigations and treatment in an environment you know and with a team you trust.

What is CT scanning?

CT (Computed Tomography) scanning is an advanced imaging technique that combines capturing multiple X-rays taken at different angles, with computer technology to create very detailed 3D images of the inside of your pet’s body.

Why Use a CT Scanner?

The precision and exceptional detail which a CT scan provides can often detect subtle changes that can be missed on a plain X-ray or ultrasound scan. It helps to identify conditions with greater accuracy and is especially helpful for diagnosing:

· Foreign objects: Locating swallowed items or embedded materials like grass seeds (we find these in ears, noses, lungs and paws).

· Tumours: Assessing tumour size and location helps surgical planning. We can also check for spread of tumour through the body before going ahead with an operation.

· Bone and joint conditions: Such as fractures, joint abnormalities, or bone tumours.

· Neurological problems: Including head or spinal injuries.

· Respiratory diseases: Identifying causes of chronic coughing or sneezing.

· Internal Injuries: Assessing damage to organs after trauma like a road traffic accident.

What happens during the CT scan?

To ensure precise imaging, your pet must remain completely still during the scan. This requires general anaesthesia or deep sedation. Our advanced anaesthetic monitoring equipment allows the vets and nurses to keep a constant check on patients throughout the procedure. The scan is non-invasive, painless and relatively quick. After the scan your pet will be transferred to the calm dog or cat ward where our lovely nurse team will care for them while they wake up.

The CT scan images are sent to a specialist radiographer for their interpretation and recommendations.

Our CT scanning service allows us to provide your pet with the most accurate diagnostics, leading to effective and personalised treatment plans.

If you have any questions or would like to discuss how a CT scan could benefit your pet, our team is here to help.
